About Us

Our Story

Pleasant Valley Mushrooms is a small farm founded by Josiah Christensen in 2021. His fascination with fungi began while foraging wild mushrooms in Wisconsin’s Driftless Area. What started as a hobby of growing mushrooms at home evolved into a full-fledged venture when Josiah returned to his hometown of Becker, Minnesota, in 2020. The farm’s name honors Becker’s original name, reflecting its deep local roots.

Before starting the farm, Josiah traveled to Tennessee to train with Mossy Creek Mushrooms, gaining a deeper understanding of the gourmet mushroom business. This experience helped cement the methodology he had developed while growing mushrooms as a hobby. Initially, production was carried out in a garage, with fruiting done in a greenhouse. By 2023, the farm expanded into a warehouse, enabling year-round cultivation.
